Referees
Referees
Referees play a critical role in providing a safe, fair, and enjoyable soccer experience for all players. Becoming a referee is a great way to stay involved in the game, learn the laws of the game, earn some extra money, and give back to the NCYSA community. Refereeing with NCYSA is open to anyone ages 13 and older, including current and former players, parents, and community members. Youth referees typically begin by officiating younger age groups and are assigned games that match their age, experience, and comfort level.
All referees are required to complete U.S. Soccer referee certification, which includes online coursework and may include in-person field training depending on level. NCYSA and its assigning partners provide guidance to help new referees complete certification and begin receiving assignments. Referees are paid per match, with pay varying by age group and level of play. Scheduling is flexible, and referees may accept or decline assignments based on availability.
