U9 Academy
The NCYSA U9 Academy is a development focused program designed for players at a key stage of growth. The Academy bridges the gap between recreational soccer and competitive soccer by emphasizing technical development, learning in a structured environment, and gaining confidence on the ball. The U9 Academy focuses on development rather than just results. It helps players build a strong foundation that supports them as they continue their soccer journey.

The U9 Academy is directed by Chris Brady who oversees the overall training plan and runs the majority of training sessions. Training may be supported by additional qualified coaches to help with instruction, organization, and a fun learning environment.
Academy training sessions are longer and more structured than recreational practices. Training emphasizes:
• Individual skill development
• Game understanding and decision-making
• Confidence and comfort in game situations
As part of the Academy experience, players participate in both home and away matches. The program includes regional travel for a portion of games, allowing players to compete against a variety of opponents and experience different playing environments. Travel expectations vary by schedule and season and are designed to remain age-appropriate while preparing players for future competitive soccer.
Players participating in the U9 Academy are considered Nelson Elite players for the season. As such, Academy players are not eligible for state-sanctioned end-of-year recreational tournaments. Players may participate in both Recreational Soccer and the U9 Academy simultaneously, provided that attendance expectations are met for each program.
Players interested in joining the U9 Academy may be asked to attend talent identification or tryout sessions. These sessions allow families to experience how Academy training is conducted and help ensure appropriate placement.
U9 Academy fees are set per season and typically include league and referee fees, state association membership, field usage and maintenance, coaching and training costs, and a player jersey. Specific fee amounts and payment details are shared prior to each season.
The NCYSA U9 Academy is led by Coach Chris Brady. Coach Brady brings a strong connection to the club, a deep background in player development, and a passion for guiding young players through their first steps into club soccer.
Chris’s soccer journey began right here with Nelson Elite, first as a player and later as a young coach learning alongside many club leaders. After gaining years of experience across the Kentucky soccer landscape, he returned to lead the next generation of players.
Coach Brady played four years of collegiate soccer at St. Catharine College (NAIA Division I) and has built an impressive coaching résumé that includes work with Bluegrass SC, the Western Hills High School girls program, and Kings Hammer, where he served as a Juniors and Premier Director. He also currently serves on staff with Kentucky Olympic Development Program (ODP).
He holds a USSF C License, is a certified USSF referee, and continues to pursue advanced coaching education. Coach Brady has directed and led numerous youth soccer camps and takes pride in creating training environments that are fun, challenging, and development-focused.
